| Be the first to name my avatar correctly, get something special! Nothing too special, but you will get an amusing forum title or something. | |

| Constantine I, the Great? It's Byzantine or Roman. ;p | |

| I believe it is a a solidus of Constantine III, who was a usurper. | |

| I should have checked the Forum earlier, because it is a Constantine! The letters on the coin spell out CONSTAN TINUS (FAHUC)... I'm not sure about those last letters. Possibly it was his title. Anyway, those last letters are identical to one gold multiple I found, picturing Constantine IIIrd, so my guess is also the Usurper, even if Foghorn beat me to it. Incidentally, Constantinus I occasionally depicted himself together with my own Forum namesake on coins (Not Daisy Duck!). | |

| Constantine the Great. That jawline didn't belong to anyone else in history. Gold solidus, definitely. | |

| I would have said Caligula. It fits better. | |

| Oh, the Great. In case his jaw wasn't that big, really, I figured he could have paid his engraver to make him seem more masculine It was frequently done by rulers! Caligula doesn't quite fit when the coin clearly says "Constantinus" | |

| Man, I'm not nearly cruel enough to be Caligula.
Constantine's portrayal in all art media has that jaw and those slightly sunken eyes. There's a famous bronze statue of him with those features; I believe it's in Rome. I wouldn't be surprised, really, if it were an accurate likeness, albeit idealized some. | |
